Discover Western Norway on a curated five-day journey combining iconic hikes, dramatic fjord landscapes, historic cities, and scenic drives between Stavanger and Bergen. From the cobblestone lanes of Stavanger’s old town and the breathtaking summit of Preikestolen, to a scenic crossing of the Hardanger region, a Mostraumen fjord cruise, and the UNESCO-listed wharves of Bergen — this is the most complete way to experience the very best of Norway’s west coast in one unforgettable trip.
Stavanger City Walking Tour Explore the best of Stavanger on a guided walking tour through Gamle Stavanger, Øvre Holmegate, the harbor waterfront, and the historic Stavanger Cathedral. Your guide will bring the city’s culture, Viking-age roots, and coastal character to life.
Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) Hike Standing 604 metres above the Lysefjord, Preikestolen is one of Norway’s most photographed natural landmarks. The hike covers approximately 8 km return and takes 4–5 hours through birch forests, mountain lakes, and open rock faces before the dramatic clifftop viewpoint is revealed. Available May to September. Replaced by Lysefjord cruise in winter or bad weather.
Scenic Drive Through the Hardanger Region The journey from Stavanger to Bergen on Day 3 takes guests through some of the most spectacular scenery in Western Norway — mountain valleys, deep fjords, fruit orchards along the Hardangerfjord, and traditional Norwegian villages tucked between the cliffs.
Steinsdalsfossen — Walk Behind the Waterfall One of Norway’s most visited and unique natural attractions, Steinsdalsfossen near Norheimsund has a 50-metre drop and a well-maintained path that lets visitors walk safely behind the falling water without getting wet. Located directly along the Norwegian Scenic Route Hardanger, it is one of the most memorable stops on the journey between Stavanger and Bergen. The waterfall is at its most spectacular in May and June when the snowmelt is at its peak.
Bryggen — UNESCO World Heritage Site Bergen’s historic Hanseatic wharf, lined with colourful wooden buildings dating back to the 14th century. Originally a major trading post for the German Hanseatic League, 62 original buildings remain today, housing craft shops, galleries, restaurants, and museums. The narrow wooden alleyways and overhanging passages are among the most atmospheric and iconic sights in all of Norway.
Mostraumen Fjord Cruise A scenic cruise through the Osterfjord and into the narrow Mostraumen channel — where towering cliffs rise on both sides and waterfalls cascade directly into the fjord. The boat passes close enough to the waterfalls that guests may feel the cool spray. Wildlife along the route includes eagles, seals, and coastal birdlife.
Mount Fløyen and the Fløibanen Funicular Opened in 1918 and now carrying nearly two million passengers per year, the Fløibanen funicular connects Bergen city centre with the summit of Mount Fløyen at 320 metres above sea level in just 6–8 minutes. From the top, guests enjoy panoramic views over Bergen’s red-roofed houses, the harbor, the fjords, and the seven surrounding mountains.
Bergen Fish Market (Fisketorget) One of Norway’s most visited outdoor markets, located right on the harbor at the foot of Bryggen. Fresh seafood, locally made dishes, and Norwegian delicacies make this a wonderful stop to sample local flavours and experience Bergen’s maritime culture firsthand.
Bergen Aquarium (Optional — Day 5) Located on the Nordnes peninsula with views over Bergen harbor, Bergen Aquarium is the top-rated aquarium in Norway and one of the best in Scandinavia. More than 60 aquariums house 200 different species — from fish and invertebrates of the Norwegian coast to sea lions, penguins, crocodiles, snakes, and tropical species. Daily feeding sessions and film screenings make it a great option for all ages on the free morning of Day 5.
Bergenhus Fortress (Optional — Day 5) One of Norway’s oldest and best-preserved medieval fortifications, sitting at the entrance to Bergen harbor. Its two main medieval buildings — Håkon’s Hall, built around 1261, and Rosenkrantz Tower — offer a fascinating insight into Bergen’s role as Norway’s medieval capital.
