Overview

Join a guided hike to one of Norway’s most iconic natural wonders — Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock). Rising 604 metres above the Lysefjord, this breathtaking flat-topped cliff has been named one of the world’s most spectacular viewpoints. With transport, an expert local guide, and a small group setting, this is the safest and most rewarding way to experience this legendary hike.

Highlights

Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) Standing at 604 metres above the Lysefjord, Preikestolen is a naturally formed cliff plateau measuring just 25 x 25 metres — a dramatic flat ledge with sheer vertical drops on three sides. Originally formed by glaciers over 10,000 years ago, it is one of the most photographed natural landmarks in all of Scandinavia, attracting over 300,000 visitors each year.

Lysefjord Views The Lysefjord stretches 42 km long with cliff walls rising over 1,000 metres at their highest points and a depth of over 400 metres in places. The panoramic views from the top are truly awe-inspiring — on a clear day you can see far into the fjord in both directions.

Diverse Trail Scenery The hike takes you through birch forests, past small mountain lakes, and across smooth open rock faces before the fjord reveals itself in full glory. About 1 km from the summit lies Tjødnane, a peaceful mountain lake — a great spot to rest and refuel before the final push.

Scenic Ryfast Tunnel Drive The journey to the trailhead passes through the Ryfast tunnel system — one of the world’s longest undersea road tunnels — offering a fascinating feat of modern Norwegian engineering on the way to the mountains.

Photo Stops Along the Way Your guide will ensure you get the best shots at key viewpoints along the trail, including the iconic plateau edge and sweeping fjord panoramas throughout.

  1. Liam S. (Netherlands)

Great trip for families with active kids who want to see the Pulpit Rock. We were 5 people and Fjordland Tours made it into our private tour. Guide was amazing, was guiding us with the pace and kids loved him.
